Chewing Gum Helps Colorectal Cancer Patients

A scientist said, chewing sugarless gum after surgery may help colon cancer patients to restore the digestive system back to normal and recovered quickly after surgery.

The study found that patients who chewed gum after surgery can go home two days early because it can affect bowel function.

It was also found that chewing gum can recover a mother after undergoing a caesarean section, such as patients undergoing abdominal surgery that can withstand the pain caused by stomach cramps until digestion back to normal.

Now, surgery is performed at the Hospital of the University College London asked the colon cancer patients who will perform the operation to bring back up to chew gum three times a day, for an hour after surgery.

A consultant colorectal surgeon Alastor Windsor said, "The thing that inhibits a person recovering from surgery because they have ileas where the condition of the intestine was asleep, the chewing gum may stimulate salivary enzymes that help digestion activity
